v60 Dripper brewing guide

V60 Brewing Steps:

  1. Start by getting your water to the correct temperature, if you’re using a temperature controlled kettle we are looking to bring the water to a temperature of 94 degrees but if you’re using a regular kettle we are looking for just off the boil.
  2. Next you’ll need to weigh out the correct amount of coffee, for every cup you’re looking to make I recommend you use 15g of coffee and then grind to a medium-fine texture.
  3. Place your filter paper inside of your V60 and place over your brew vessel, you then will take your kettle and pour a small amount of water over the filter to pre-rinse your water while simultaneously pre-heating your vessel. The reason you do this is to remove the paper flavour from the filter and leave you with a purer coffee taste.
  4. Put your coffee into your pre-rinsed filter and place your vessel and V60 onto your digital scale. With a V60 you will be working on a 1:15 ratio so for every 1g of coffee we will be using 15g/ml of water.
  5. Start by pouring 45g of water (1:3 ratio) over your coffee in concentric circles ensuring you cover the full surface of the coffee and start your timer. The reason we added 45g is we are encouraging the coffee to bloom and release excess gases to encourage a more even extraction
  6.  After 30 seconds give the coffee a stir carefully to ensure you don’t touch the filter paper and then pour in the remainder of the water again in concentric circles to bring the weight up to 225g.
  7. Now you just must wait for the coffee to finish extracting through your coffee until its ready to drink. If the coffee is too weak and the extraction process seemed too quick than your coffee was too coarse, and you need to reduce the size of the grind or should you have the opposite issue then make the coffee grind slightly coarser.
